What we are going to do . . .
Bonnie had many plans in regards to Cambodia. During her last visit she had a discussion with the head teacher on what needed to be donated. Most of what was asked for was brought by Bonnie and other volunteers on their last trip, things such as stationary, books and first aid supplies. The head teacher then asked for some new classrooms, but laughed as she said it, not expecting anything to be done. There are 5 classrooms at the school, and 2 of those are wooden shacks where the older children are taught.
After Bonnie left the school, it was all she spoke about and she could not let it go. Her plan was to go to Cambodia after she finished university and raise funds to build new classrooms for the children. Bonnie thought that instead of giving money directly to the school, it would be better to pay for the classrooms with the donations to ensure that every penny raised went into the project. She believed that the school itself would benefit more from material donations.
This website has been set up by Bonnie’s friends to allow her incredible work to be carried on, and to ensure that she continues to have a positive effect on the children in Cambodia. My name is Myah, I first volunteered with Bonnie at VCAO in 2010, we bonded over our love for the children and returned to Cambodia together in December 2011. The plan to build the classrooms was one we decided together on our last visit, we had discussed being responsible for the money and how it was spent, so that none was lost through organizations and middle men.
Our friends in Cambodia who also loved and were inspired by Bonnie, have given their full support behind this project to ensure that it goes as planned when we are not there. In December 2012, a few of us are traveling to Cambodia for several weeks to start the building plans for the classrooms.
The initial plan is to raise $10,000 in order to build the classrooms and provide necessary supplies, however, this target is subject to change. Once the donations are near to this target we can start arranging dates for the project to officially begin. This December, we are going to obtain planning permission and sort out the legislation whilst in Cambodia. The classrooms are not going to be built in the near future, but “change, real change, always takes a very long time.” This is Bonnie’s dream, so it cannot be rushed, it will be done in the time
necessary for everything to be as Bonnie would
have wanted.
We will keep you updated via the ‘Recent News’
page so that you know where the money is
being spent, and what is happening, every step
of the way.
We cannot thank you enough for your support and
help to Build Bonnie’s Dream.
